Dear Laura:

I remembered our conversation when you told me that you would like to read other types of books aside from horror novels, such as journalistic chronicles or stories based on reality.  Also I think it would be great to show you some of my interests, which are mainly non-fiction stories about the Colombian civil war and war in other parts of the globe.

The first thing I would do if I were you, is reading “Trochas y fusiles: Historias de combatientes” by Alfredo Molano, a very renowned Colombian journalist.  On one hand it can give you a good background in order to understand the origins of FARC, the most important guerrilla in our recent history. The book provides a pretty gripping landscape of members’ experiences and war testimonies as well.

On the other hand, the book is very catchy and easy to follow because it has got maps that illustrate combat zones, camps, journeys, crops from FARC. Additionally there are some awesome maps that guide you through the facts in a chronological order

By doing this, you’ll be able to get a subtle glimpse of Colombian history. If you are interested in other suggestions, please send me an email.
Sincerely,

Luisa Larios.
